Standing Together to Protect Medicaid for Medically Complex Children

Today, the National Coalition for Hospice and Palliative Care, along with more than 60 national and state-based organizations, submitted a joint letter urging Congressional leaders to protect Medicaid funding. The letter expresses opposition to budget reconciliation proposals that would jeopardize access to palliative and supportive care for medically complex children.

Nearly half of all children with special health care needs are covered by Medicaid. Cuts to this vital program would have devastating consequences—delaying care, increasing hospitalizations, and placing an enormous burden on families already facing unimaginable challenges.

Pediatric palliative care improves outcomes, lowers costs, and supports families. We believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive, and that no family should struggle for basic support in the face of serious illness.
