Trauma-Informed Care: Why It’s Important and How to Implement It into Practice
May 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Trauma is an emotional response to disturbing or distressing events or circumstances in one’s life, including but not limited to violence, natural disasters, institutionalized oppression, war-related damages, the sudden loss of a family member, or medical injuries. According to the National Council for Behavioral Health, 70% of U.S. adults have experienced a traumatic event in their lifetimes. This accounts for approximately 200 million people in the U.S. living with the effects of trauma.
Despite the prevalence (or incidence) of trauma, many palliative care clinicians have not received Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) education or training. This webinar, presented by Sherika Newman, DO, and Karen Bullock, PhD, fills a critical gap. By the end of this presentation, attendees will be able to:
Define TIC and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Understand the importance of TIC in caring for people living with serious illness
Implement TIC into their practice with new, relevant tools
This webinar is free and open to all.
